LES SAGES

All over Morroco one can find dozens marabout mausolea, especially in the Dra and Dades valleys. Altough almost all of them are built more than a few centurys ago, nowadays  these are still holy places of reflection and inspiration. The burried sufi muslim guides lead in their time a very simple, ascetic life, and as traditional healers they were most famous.

Today in some villages the power of these former wise men is still attractive to many people in search of spiritual healing.

Some of these tombs in fragile adobe (mud brick) are being maintained by the community. Others are abandoned.

For how long will these small heritage sites remain?
